Wednesday have only won twice at home this season in the league, against Huddersfield and Barnsley, out of six attempts and now head for away games at Peterborough tonight, Bradford City on Saturday and Swindon Town next week.
When you also look at the combined record from last season, The Owls have only tasted victory nine times out of a massive 29 games.
But Wood thinks the club is turning the corner, and he believes the appointment of Sturrock and the leadership of Chris Marsden will be vital to making Wednesday victorious at S6 more often.
He told Footymad: "You can’t really put your finger on the fact why we have not been that dominant at home in the last few years.
"People say it can be the crowd but it could also be the players but we have to get it into our heads that Hillsborough should become a fortress – the gaffer says that to us all the time and we are doing things on the training ground that will improve this in the long run and following Sunday’s result, you can see there has been an immediate improvement.
"The players who are at the club at the moment all have the attitude and mentality to turn things around here and we are all aiming for a championship or promotion.
"We are all in it together, Chris as captain has been fantastic – he’s always buzzing and happy all the time and his presence has been a great help."
Wood though does admit to being perplexed with his lack of first-team oppertunities but is mature enough to know that he does have age on his side in the long run.
He added: "I am frustrated I have been in and out of the side with Paul Heckingbottom playing and then me getting injuries but I know I have got time on my side as I am young but of course I want to play every week and in time I hope I can achieve that goal."
Wednesday are at London Road this evening and it is expected that Wood will retain his place with Graeme Lee being brought back instead of the injured Paul Smith while Glenn Whelan will be pushing for a recall.
