Defender faces lengthy lay off

As if to add further insult to injury, as was expected, the news on Richard Hinds who was stretchered off lat-on in the 4-1 defeat at Wolves is not good.

The Owls official website today confirmed that the defender had suffered a "serious injury" according to club physio Mark Palmer and was due to have surgery on a fractured left leg on Sunday.

Hinds joins fellow right-back Frank Simek on the sidelines, the American is still thought to be weeks away from returning to the fold and further up the field the Owls injury list is extensive already.

Wade Small is yet to feature this season, Etienne Esajas departed at half-time on Saturday, Akpo Sodje is out for up to two months, Marcus Tudgay is struggling to be fit having missed the last two fixtures and Francis Jeffers needs to prove his fitness in the reserves before being risked.

In other news, the Owls have been linked with West Brom forward Bartosz Slusarski in a bid to ease their attacking injury crisis. The Polish player had a decent spell on loan at the club at the end of last season and could be looking to move back down to the Championship in a bid to gain first team football. Owls manager Brian Laws enjoys a good working relationship with Baggies boss Tony Mowbray and Slusarski would certainly be a useful acquisition given the current predicament.

Despite only playing for 45 minutes Etienne Esajas managed to make the Coca-Cola Championship team of the week as published on the Football League's official website. This gives a fair indication of how the Owls gave a good account of themselves as a whole in the first half at Molineux, only to virtually fail to come out at all for the second 45.
