Sheffield Wednesday were the victims of the only major F.A. Cup 4th round upset this weekend, going down to a 3-2 defeat at lowly League One side Shrewsbury Town.
The Owls led 1-0 at half-time thanks to a Lewis McGugan goal, the Shrews responded with a 2nd half equalizer but McGugan restored the Owls lead with a long-range strike with 15 minutes to go.
It was a lead the Owls preserved going into the last 5 minutes of the games but with time ticking away Vincent Sasso conceded a penalty and although Lewis Price saved the spot-kick the home side scored from the rebound to make it 2-2.
Deep into injury time the Owls were denied a clear penalty when Nuhiu was jumped upon in the box and the hosts then broke away to score the winner in the 7th minute of stoppage time.
To make matters worse the draw on Sunday left the Owls thinking of what might have been a lucrative cup tie at Hillsborough as Shrewsbury were given a home tie against Manchester United.
Carlos Carvalhal made 9 changes to his side for the game but Wednesday should still have had enough in their team to progress – credit must be given to Shrewsbury for staying in the game and coming up with the late winner.
The Owls focus must now be on the Championship campaign, starting with a big home game against in-form Burnley on Tuesday evening.
