Cold but quiet day as winter window shuts

The January transfer window closed today with Sheffield Wednesday securing the services of Michael Gray until the end of the season on a permanent deal.

The former Sunderland man has had a positive influence on the team in the few games he has played so far following his recent loan move from Wolves and he will hopefully continue this form for the remainder of the campaign.

There will be a certain sense of relief amongst many Owls fans that none of the clubs promising young players were sold during the month as rumours persisted.

The likes of Mark Beevers and Tommy Spurr were thought to be attracting interest from other clubs along with goalkeeper Lee Grant.

Previous windows had seen key players such as Chris Brunt and Glenn Whelan leave Hillsborough in search of top flight football as the club looked to balance the books but it would appear that they have been able to keep the squad intact this time around and that will provide a boost to everyone as the Owls look to build on their current mid-table position in the Coca Cola Championship
