Owls add defender
Sheffield Wednesday bolstered their defensive options on Thursday with the signing of Chey Dunkley. The 28-year-old moves to Hillsborough on a free transfer having seen his contract with Wigan Athletic come to an end.
Dunkley spent 2 and a half seasons at Oxford United from late 2014, helping the club to secure promotion from League Two in his final season with the club before moving to Wigan in 2017. His 3 seasons with the Latics were successful ones, winning promotion from League One in his first season and securing Championship safety against the odds in 2018-19. Wigan would also have earned enough points on the field to stay up last season but off-field issues resulted in a 12-point deduction for going into administration which saw them relegated.
Dunkley is a 6’ 2” centre-back with an eye for goal having scored 6 times last season.
