The Owls chief, under pressure for the last two seasons by sections of the fans, has to take credit for bringing Paul Sturrock to the club.
Suddenly though, supporters have forgotten about their differences with Allen as he prepares Wednesday for their first season in two years in the newly-named championship.
On the game against Hartlepool, he said: "I am absolutely delighted - stunned to be honest. It was a great day and I am happy that Wednesday fans have had a day to cheer about.
"I am proud of every single person concerned with Wednesday and we had fantastic support on the day, only thing is we took £4million out of Sheffield and gave it to Cardiff!
"But this is only part one of the equation: part two is getting the finances in order and part three is making sure we get to the Premiership."
