Wednesday fly out to the USA on Thursday to play three games and Sturrock is hoping that he will know more about the availability of the Liverpool stopper by then.
Other teams have been interested in the 20-year-old - including West Brom and Cardiff although the England player has admitted that he would like to come back to Hillsborough on a season-long basis.
Sturrock admits he is still looking at other goalkeeping options but his first choice would definitely be Carson.
Meanwhile the Owls boss has said that he does want to sign another former loanee in Folly.
The Southampton midfielder who was a star for Wednesday on loan last season was offered a new deal at St Mary's although reports stating that he is training at Middlewood are wide of the mark according to Sturrock.
In other news, David Graham will not make the trip to Carolina and New York because of visa problems - apparently the former Wigan striker has a police record after a minor infringement nearly a decade ago.
But despite this, Graham will be given every opportunity to secure his place at Hillsborough when The Owls resume their pre-season preparations on their return to the UK.
