Having completed two transfer signings on Tuesday Sheffield Wednesday manager Gary Megson has been much quieter on deadline day and though more signings were predicted, with the deadline fast approaching the only business that the Owls have done so far today is to let two players go out on loan.
Midfielder Giles Coke has joined League One rivals Bury on a 2-month emergency loan deal and defender Mark Beevers also remains in the same division having signed for MK Dons on a sort-term deal until New Year’s Eve.
Coke signed for the Owls under Alan Irvine last summer and instantly provided a fizz in the Wednesday midfield but after a promising start he lost his way around the turn of the year. He has been unable to hold down a regular place in the side since Gary Megson took over and will see this as an opportunity to get some regular appearances under his belt.
Mark Beevers was a revelation when he broke into the side under Brian Laws and has made over 30 appearances in each of the last four seasons. His progression has stalled somewhat at times though he still has the potential to be a very competent defender. However he too has fallen down the pecking order under Megson, finding himself behind Rob Jones, Danny Batth and perhaps even Reda Johnson in the fight for a centre-back spot and with new defender David Kasnik having now joined the ranks a change of scenery may kick-start Beevers’ stalling career.
