Burton on injury and Palace draw - exclusive

The Owls missed four clear-cut chances to well and truly bury the high-flying Eagles but they will settle for another clean sheet and another point on the road to survival.

But the former Rotherham, Derby and Portsmouth man Burton limped off for Leon Best in the first half and is set to miss the Coventry game on Wednesday night although he admitted it could have been a lot worse.

He told Footymad after the 0-0 draw: “We are going to assess it on Sunday but the physio says I am lucky; if I stayed on a little longer then I could have been out for three or four weeks instead of 10-12 days so hopefully fingers crossed that it’s very minor and hopefully I can be back for the derby.”

The Jamaican international thought that Wednesday dominated the play though and with more of a cutting edge, the home side would have romped home – but he is confident of avoiding the drop to league one at the end of the campaign.

He added: “If I thought we were going to get relegated then there really wouldn’t have been much point in coming. We are good enough to stay up. The team who we faced today are fourth in the league and we should have come away with a win really.

“Chris (Adamson) has come in and done really well, he pulled off a good save but praise for people playing out of position who did well. We were very determined and glad to get something out of the game.”

Burton
has impressed in attack for Paul Sturrock’s men and there’s only one thing missing from his game at the moment – goals.

“Yeah it’s always the one,” Deon continued, “getting your first goal, getting off the mark but as long as the team is winning and I am playing half-decent I’m happy. I have been playing ok so far but I just need to get that first goal and then the rest will come. The competition we have here can only be good for the squad so everyone knows that you have to be on top form to get into the starting 11.”

Meanwhile Graham Coughlan should be fit for the trip to the West Midlands after being taken off with cramp.
