Bullen season review part 2 - exclusive

Last updated : 04 May 2006 By Andy Parsons

In the second and final part of his season review, the club captain mentions some of the players who have stood out and done their job to ensure Wednesday did not return quickly to league one.

Yesterday the popular Scotsman told Footymad about some of the games which had turned the campaign around and also the relief of staying up - although now it is is time to look forward rather than back.

Bully on new players

"The players who have come in have been brilliant. Three have been loan players and two have been permanent signings but Bischoff and Carson have come in and being premiership class, Scott is an England goalkeeper in the making but it is a shame about Mikkel because he has come in done well and picked up an injury but they have all done well.

"Overall on the signings made all year, Burton O'Brien has come in and done well. He is a very, very quiet lad but a very tidy footballer. Deon Burton and Marcus Tudgay have come in and being brilliant also they came in and filled a void that I think we were lacking when Steve MacLean was missing to get the goals and that little bit of experience.

Bully on the old stars

"Everyone has played a part this season including players who have now left the club who were here last summer can also take a lot of heart out of this. Lee Peacock, Graeme Lee and Paul Heckingbottom were tremendous for the changing room and those guys deserve a lot of credit too because they played their part in getting the club where they are now and helping laying the foundations for what should be an improvement next season."

Bully on looking forward

"One defeat in eight games and four goals conceded was fantastic end of the season for the club. Personally it was nice to be involved in the last few games. But I have said from the start of the season that this club we have here was more than capable of surviving in this league and if we kept players fit, then we would have been comfortably mid-table, I don't think there's any doubt it that.

"I am sure that next season whatever squad the manager has will be capable of taking the club further forward again. We don't want to put all our eggs in one basket because it is a case of natural progression. We have the foundations here, with three or four new signings the manager is talking about making in the summer I think that will take us onto the next level."

Many thanks to Lee as always for his time and effort in helping out with this piece - his commitment to the club does not just stay on the pitch.
