The Scottish defender, a firm crowd favourite and captain of the play-off winning team has had offers from Dunfermline and Falkirk but he is set to stay south of the border.
He told Real Radio: "I'm 99.9 per cent sure that it's Wednesday and I'll be going back to Hillsborough next year, there's a couple of minor points I need clarification from the manager or chief executive Kavan Walker from but I don’t foresee that there will be any major problems and I'm really, really looking forward to next season."
The 34-year-old, who is set to sign a one-year extension, cited the win in Wales against Hartlepool as a major factor for his decision.
He added: "After the day in Cardiff, It's going to take a hell of a lot for me not to come back down here next season. I cant wait for the fixtures to come out so I can have a look to see when I am at Bramall Lane and Elland Road.
"So its all excitement building up again for me and I cant wait for it to start to be honest. Thanks to Dunfermline and Falkirk but its 'High-Ho' Sheffield Wednesday!"
