Akpo, The Valiant's player of the year last season, joins on a three-year deal and will wear the number 30 shirt vacated by the usually invisible David Graham - now at Gillingham.
The 6 foot 2 inch striker will add a new dimension to Wednesday's attack with his pace and power being valuable assets.
Laws told the club's official site: "Akpo is a big, powerful striker and will give us plenty of extra ammunition in attack this season.
"We have been creating plenty of chances in recent games and I feel that Akpo is the kind of player who can convert those opportunities."
Sojde will be part of the squad to face Bristol City on Saturday if he gets clearance to play from the FA while Wednesday are still awaiting official news regarding the availability of winger Etienne Esajas who signed yesterday.
But Akpo's brother Sam, who was all set to join Wednesday earlier in the week, looks set to join Charlton on loan with a view to a permanent move.
A deal to sign the former Brentford defender from Reading was done although their was a last-minute hitch and despite Brian Laws being made promises by the Berkshire club, the player is set to move to The Valley.
It's a cruel blow for Laws who was relying on the signing of Sam to help out the club's ailing defence but the Owls boss claims to have other irons in the fire regarding some rearguard cover.
