The Owls do not have a game this weekend to bounce back from the horror show at home to Leicester City because of the dates scheduled in the international calendar.
Usually, managers want to get their teams to get straight back into a game instead of mulling over a result for a long time but the Wednesday boss believes that the current hiatus will give some of his players opportunities to stake their claim for a first-team spot.
He told the Star: "Some people say that when you fall off a horse you get back on as quickly as you can, but actually this break couldn't have come at a better time.
"It gives players an opportunity to get back and give me a full squad to choose from, going into a very tough game at Stoke, who are a very strong side on a successful run and who will be one of the very strong sides in the division."
Wednesday have lost eight out of ten games this season with their two victories coming in back-to-back games against Hull and Norwich City.
