The Dutch striker has played for some of Europe's biggest clubs and could move to Sheffield if he wins over Laws in a trial.
Laws knows the former Barcelona, Ajax and Milan striker's agent and has been alerted of his availability since being released by PSV last season.
But at the moment, the Owls boss has urged fans not to get their hopes up regarding a permanent signing of the player.
He told the club's official site: "I know the agent in question very well and, while we were in Holland, he mentioned Patrick was looking for another club - he has made contact with the player, who is quite interested - that's the invitation to him.
"I'm not going to draw conclusions from the fact that he might be interested. We all know what a quality player he is but I would like to see him in training and a game to see what his hunger and desire is about."
Meanwhile, Laws has confirmed that he is interested in Darius Henderson of Watford but is yet to table a bid for the former Gillingham striker, who scored 15 goals in The Hornets' promotion push two years ago.
Wednesday play Chesterfield at Saltergate tonight with Laws hoping to give some of his players a 90-minute run out.
