But with only a two-point gap separating Wednesday from Millwall, who beat Luton Town in the last minute at the weekend, the remaining games will be a battle though.
The Owls are on a four-game losing although Cameron Jerome's strike should only have been a consolation for the home side after Wednesday missed countless opportunities.
Sturrock said after the game: "I'm sorry for the players and proud of every one of them. I'm delighted with the performance but we just don't seem to be able to kill teams off and get the results we need.
"I thought my players looked sorry for themselves last Saturday and I ripped into them all week. Today (Saturday) they came up with the goods, even if they didn't get the result.
"If we were to perform like that from now until the end of the season, we will not go down."
