The Owls manager looked on at the 1-1 draw with Stoke at Hillsborough last night knowing that Wednesday played well but did not finish their opportunities.
Chris Brunt's penalty levelled the scores five minutes before half time but the home side should have won the game when a tired Marcus Tudgay fired wide towards the end of the game when he had all the time in the world.
He told the club's official site: "The players can do no more. They've been absolutely magnificent since the start of the season and given everything for the cause. Their keeper's made a couple of good saves but Tudgay's chance at the end of the 90 minutes was the key to the game."
Glenn Whelan is a doubt for the Hull game on Friday night after hurting his hip last night while Lloyd Sam picked up a dead leg and could also be doubtful.
