The Owls manager, who has a good relationship with the Wednesday faithful, said in The Star last week that the chances of getting Michael Johnson and Graham Kavanagh could be hampered by poor attendances at Hillsborough.
But he wants to clear up confusion and say that Wednesday supporters are excellent and that he was just making a point that poor results were keeping fans away.
He told The Star: "This football club has got fantastic fans, I've said it before and I'll keep on saying it and no way am I having a go at anyone."
"I was simply stating a fact of finance that if gates go down and, therefore, there is less money coming in through that source (through the turnstiles), then it will have an effect.
"I'm just being honest because if gates continue to go down then there is a loss of income and it makes it doubly hard to hold on to players."
