Saturday’s defeat to Grimsby was a shocker, even by Wednesday’s terribly lame standards and the Owls boss has warned his players that if they do not improve, their Hillsborough career will be over.
He said: "There’s only Adam Proudlock and Guylain Ndumbu-Nsungu in the team who played against Grimsby who have a contract for next season, and I’m sure some of those players will be coming to me and moaning about me when they eventually leave the club, but after that performance I can’t accept that happening and I won’t accept it happening.
"I stated way back in January that players have to earn their next contact at the club and when they are playing like that, they can do better but just don’t do it consistently."
He still believes he has what it takes though to get Wednesday promotion, although he knows that he will have to wait until next season.
He added: "I don’t judge things on one performance but I do know what is required to get out of this division and during the summer that is what will happen but at the moment I am having to endure some performances that are just not worthy."
