A clinical strike from Darren Anderton and substitute Kenny Miller, who anticipated a mistake by both Richard Wood and Peter Gilbert confined The Owls to yet another defeat in a very unhappy festive campaign.
But the service to the front two was poor for Wednesday last night and when the strikers did have their chances, they did not result in goals - an all too familiar tale for the club during the last 11 hours of football.
Sturrock said afterwards: "We've learned how to lose, sometimes gracefully, so we've got to learn how to start winning again.
"Certain players now aren't taking the responsibility. We can say about lady luck, but there are people out there who aren't going in where it hurts so we've got to battle even harder to get that elusive goal and win."
As the elusive transfer window draws closer and closer, Wednesday have been linked with Falkirk's 8-goal striker Darryl Duffy and Hibernian's Derek Riordan who has 11 strikes to his name.
Cardiff, Watford and Hull are also reportedly chasing Duffy while Rangers could tempt Riordan away from Easter Road, just like they did with Kilmarnock's Kris Boyd last week.
Although one thinks that it is just not strikers what Wednesday need at the moment - a fresh injection of new talent in every department of the pitch would be handy.
