Bates has laughed off Allen’s attempts to bring in Blackpool’s local lad Scott Taylor, Luton hotshot Steve Howard and Preston’s former Owls loanee David Lucas.
The former Chelsea supremo believes Allen getting his hand in his pocket, albeit for yet another loan to the club, is a publicity stunt to get the fans back on his side after his public barracking at the end of last season.
After the farce surrounding the Howard incident on Friday, where the big striker was subject of a fraudulent £500,000 bid acceptance, Luton released a statement claiming that Wednesday’s offer had been turned down.
It said: "Contrary to a statement released by Sheffield Wednesday Football Club via their official website and reports issued by BBC Radio Sheffield, Luton Town can confirm that the club have turned down an offer from Sheffield Wednesday and therefore have not given permission for Sheffield Wednesday to talk to Steve Howard."
After signing Lee Bullen, Chris Turner captured another Scot, Jon-Paul McGovern from Livingstone on a two-year deal.
The former United loan player was recommended to Turner by former Blades assistant boss Kevin Blackwell, now at Leeds, following his time at The Lane although he has only been a bit-part player north of the border since leaving Celtic.
