Sheffield Wednesday’s summer chase of Michail Antonio has come to a successful climax today with confirmation that the Reading winger has signed for the Owls on a 4-year deal.
Antonio moves to Hillsborough for an undisclosed fee having had an inspired loan spell at S6 in the 2nd half of last season. In 14 games for the Owls Antonio scored 5 times and added a number of assists as well as Wednesday soared to automatic promotion.
Wednesday fans have been on edge all summer in anticipation of his return to the club and many will be relieved that it is now officially a done deal. There had been rumours linking him with a move to other Championship clubs but his appearance in the crowd during Saturday’s home friendly with West Brom was a good sign and Antonio has stated that winning promotion with the club last season was something he will never forget and he is now looking forward to helping the club succeed in the Championship.
The 21-year old could get a run out in the Owls friendly match against Kilmarnock in Scotland on Wednesday evening.
