Sheffield Wednesday drew a blank for the 6th time in 9 home games so far this season when a fairly uneventful game with local neighbours Rotherham ended 0-0.
Wednesday recalled Stevie May to the starting line-up and gave on loan Leicester forward Gary Taylor-Fletcher he first start for the Owls alongside him in a bid to end their Hillsborough goal drought.
The Owls started brightly with May causing problems before firing in a low cross that just evaded everyone and Maghoma wriggling free down the left and finding Taylor-Fletcher with a low cross but the striker's connection sent the ball just wide.
Chances were at a premium but the visitors went close on a couple of occasions from corners without managing to test Westwood in the Wednesday goal.
Taylor-Fletcher had to go off with a head injury and his replacement, Atdhe Nuhiu, volleyed a half-chance wide as the first half drew to a close.
The Owls almost profited from an early Millers error in the second half when goalkeeper Collin mis-kicked Broadfoot's back pass and the ball went just wide of his own goal.
Rotherham almost caught Wednesday napping as a quickly taken corner found Pringle in the box but the Owls reacted to snuff out the danger before Revell headed a chance well wide.
Helan's fine run and shot with 15 minutes remaining produced a smart near post save from Collin and from the resulting corner Loovens hooked just wide with the keeper stranded.
Frecklington then had the ball in the net at the other end after Helan's clearance had been charged down but the midfielder was well offside and the goal was correctly chalked off.
The Owls had a strong penalty appeal waved away in the last 10 minutes when after a smart turn substitute Kieran Lee had the goal at his mercy only to seemingly be hauled down under the challenge of Broadfoot.
May then forced Collin to palm away two strikes from the edge of the box and Nuhiu fired disappointingly into the Kop on the turn to leave both sides with a share of the spoils.
Wednesday looked more likely to force the game late on but it took them a long time to get going in the second half and their play appeared very disjointed until the final 15 minutes or so.
The Owls have still failed to score from open play at Hillsborough in the league this season and have only won once on their own patch. Stuart Gray's side go into the international break in 13th place, 5 points clear of the relegation zone and 7 points off the play-off places.
