Sheffield Wednesday recorded their second 3-3 draw in succession in the Championship on Saturday but the point against Blackburn will feel much better than the one the got in the draw at Nottingham Forest last Tuesday.
Wednesday led 3-1 going into the last 15 minutes against Forest so to finish with a 3-3 draw felt like a defeat. Against Blackburn the Owls trailed 3-1 at half-time and so on this occasion the draw felt almost like a win.
The Owls started well enough but old foe Jordan Rhodes took advantage of some awful defending to give the visitors the lead from close range on 15 minutes. The deficit was wiped out on the half hour mark when Buxton bundled home a flicked on corner at the back post for his second goal in two games.
Wednesday were once again in the ascendancy but the defensive problems that have plagued recent performances were all too evident and allowed Blackburn to go in at the break wih what appeared to be a comfortable lead.
A poor clearance from Llera saw Conway score from distance though Kirkland will also feel disappointed with his contribution and a little over 5 minutes later Keane scored a header from close range after Wednesday failed to fully clear a free-kick.
Lavery and Helan replaced Palmer and Mattock with around half an hour left as Stuart Gray rolled the dice in a bid to get the Owls back into the match and the changes paid off. A fine ball from Maguire sent Antonio racing to the by-line and his cut back was slotted home by Nuhiu.
The Owls were then seemingly denied a penalty when Lee's legs were swept from under him in the box but the referee gave nothing.
Blackburn played on the break with Wednesday pushing for a leveller. Gestede was denied by a great tackle from Buxton, the Blackburn striker then produced an embarrassing dive which rightly earned him a yellow card.
Rhodes then missed an opportunity to wrap up the points, clipping wide when through at an angle and just when it seemed beyond them Wednesday found the equaliser their effort deserved.
In the final minute of stoppage time Llera saw a shot blocked and the loose ball fell to Nuhiu who rifled a shot past the helpless Robinson. There was still time for the Owls to find a winner and they almost did. A sweeping attacking saw Nuhiu picked out at the bac post and his first time shot was well saved by the impressive Robinson. The rebound fell to Lavery and although he had time to steady himself his effort flew tamely over, bringing an entertaining contest to an end with honours even.
