Allen survives by a landslide

The leisure tycoon has been under the cosh for nearly a year now by disgruntled fans, former board members and high-profile onlookers because of Wednesday’s £27million debt.

In the two resolutions passed – one to remove Allen from the board and the other to vote no confidence in his abilities as chairman – The Owls chief got over 80percent of the votes in his favour.

Allen though did have around 24million available voting shares on his side at the extraordinary general meeting held at Pond’s Forge last night with only 5million shares able to vote against him – hence the landslide result.

But the gloom will not clear over Allen’s head just quite yet, especially with the likes of Ken Bates watching every move from afar.

The Owls Trust, so often looking out for the club’s ‘best interests’, have been fighting with the club following the approach from Bates and former director Roy Hattersley called for an independent investigation to their recent actions.

The Trust of course own nearly 10percent of the shares at the club after they were given to the organisation by Allen following when the club bought back Charterhouse’s stake in Wednesday.

One fan said that the Trust were like a free lodger in a house and they go behind the landlord’s back with his wife in so many words, an analogy which could be true after they turned on Allen after they were given shares in the club!

Remember guys, we also have a football game tonight so please put your handbags away!
