In a change from last year SWFC manager Brian Laws was in attendance at the clubs Annual General Meeting and in light of the Owls current poor run of results he had to face some challenging questions from shareholders.
Laws acknowledged that results needed to improve but in conducting his own section of the presentation he highlighted how the team had improved in a wide range of areas such as fitness, mobility, passing, endurance and conditioning and if they could continue the defensive improvements they have shown in the last couple of games and capitalise on good approach play then results would follow.
The boss also highlighted the positive effect of the recent investment in the physiotherapy /medical side of the clubs operations and the implementation of Prozone analysis.
Laws stated that he would not compromise the style of play and play scrappy, defensive, negative tactics in order to try and improve results underlining his belief that the Owls attractive approach will bear fruition.
Lee Strafford stated that this season is about consolidation and gradual improvement on last seasons mid-table finish. It is widely acknowledged that the standard of the Owls general play has improved in most games this season and the team have been unlucky not to collect more points but results must improve sooner rather than later if this is to be reflected in the league table.
In order to try and address this Laws has been attempting to bring in a striker on loan and still hopes to have one or possibly two new recruits before the loan deadline passes on Thursday.
The club confirmed that it is not in a position nor would it like to adopt an approach that would see the structure of the business plan compromised and as such they are not in a position where they could make permanent signings to strengthen the team in January but the money freed up from the wages of Richard Wood enables the opportunity to consider loan signings. Unless investment is secured the emphasis for team strengthening revolves around picking up players coming towards the end of their contracts.
