Owls retained list features few surprises
Sheffield Wednesday have announced their retained list for out-of-contract players as the 2017-18 season draws to a close and few will be surprised by the decisions the club has made.
3 players are set to be released as their contracts expire, namely Glenn Loovens, Ross Wallace and Jake Kean. Loovens has been a great servant since joining the club in late 2013 but has featured less this season. Wallace was a key player as the Owls reached the play-off final in 2015-16 and also made key contributions last season but has been much less productive during this campaign and an injury picked up in January ended his season. Jake Kean has spent spells out on loan and has not had any opportunities to break into the Wednesday side due to the strength in depth that the club have in the goalkeeping position.
Daniel Pudil has accepted an offer of a 1-year contract. Having excelled as a left-back in 2015-16 the Czech defender has reverted to a left-sided centre-back role this season and has had a really solid second half of the campaign under Jos Luhukay’s management.
Striker Atdhe Nuhiu, who has ended the season in fine form, has been offered a new contract as have youngsters Sean Clare, George Hirst, Dan Wallis, Warren Clarke and Jack Lee.
Loan duo Jacob Butterfield and Frederico Venancio will return to their parent clubs after the final game of the season against Norwich City at Hillsborough on Sunday.
