The Owls travelled to Manchester full of confidence in their 1st clash of the new campaign to face Manchester City at Flixton.
The Owls fielded a very strong squad in what should have been no difficult task for the new look squad, but as the game progressed it became apparent that Wednesday were not as complete as pre- season would imply. City kept things simple and used the ball well while Wednesday consistently gave the ball away. Man City managed to put 4 past the owls, 2 either side of the interval, whilst Wednesday never tested the City keeper.
Head Coach Dan Duke commented “We are massively disappointed with the performance today after a pre-season that bought so much hope. It looked like we had not kicked a ball together ever before. There is no excuse for the display today it was simply not good enough and everyone will have to pull their socks up if we are to fulfil our potential this year.
On paper the squad that was picked today should be challenging any team in this league but these things happen in football. The ladies now have to prove to the staff, but especially themselves that they can come back from this defeat.
There will have to be some hard work put in at training this week and we will all have to regroup before we play Aston Villa next Sunday at Worksop."
