There was both good and bad news on the injury front today as the international break began in earnest.
Tommy Spurr limped out of the crushing defeat at Plymouth on Saturday and the defender is set to be on the sidelines for a month or so with ankle ligament damage.
This is obviously a blow ahead of some important games for the Owls but it was feared that he could be out for a considerably longer spell.
On a brighter note right-back Frank Simek is in line to make a long awaited return in a reserve fixture at Stocksbridge this evening. The USA international has not played since picking up an injury at Selhurst Park way back in December last year and so his comeback could be a major boost for the team.
While it would be unwise to rush Simek back given the length of time he has been out and the fact that loan player Tony McMahon has done a decent job in his position, if tonight goes well then there is the possibility of another reserves outing against Lincoln next Tuesday and so a return to first team action could soon be on the horizon.
